In this section HLT projects have been categorised in three different ways:

The descriptions of the projects are largely based upon progress or final reports provided by the projects themselves. All the projects have been the subject of independent reviews by external reviewers, and the reports of these reviews have also been taken into account. For new projects, the descriptions have been adapted from the project technical annexes, and have been agreed with the project co-ordinators and the project officers.

Project groupings are an attempt to cluster projects according to their main commercial focus, addressing the needs of an existing market sector.

All project summaries are updated regularly. The Esprit, IN-CO, and MLIS projects absorbed into the HLT Programme management in 1999, and projects from the first IST call (HLT-1), can be found in their respective project clusters below. Game Ogre
